Robotics is a multidisciplinary field combining computer science and engineering. Robots will soon take over all the tasks which are currently being done by humans. The field of Robotics involves programming, design, construction of robot parts, and the knowledge of electrical wiring. The goal of robotics and artificial intelligence is to create an autonomous agent capable of completing a task by interacting with its surroundings. Sooner or later there will be robots that will start communicating with humans in a compassionate manner
Artificial intelligence refers to intelligence demonstrated by machines as opposed to natural intelligence showed by humans and animals, which includes consciousness and emotionality. Even though there is no universally accepted definition of AI it generally refers to a machine that responds to stimuli in the same way humans do. According to some extremely knowledgeable researchers, these software systems make decisions that normally require a human degree of skill and assist humans in anticipating difficulties or dealing with challenges as they arise.
AI can be completely software related while robots are physical machines that move, and complete various tasks as programmed by the user. Robotics is concerned with the physical construction of robots, whereas AI is concerned with programming intelligence. Robots are exposed to physical force through “sensors” while they impose physical force on the world through “Actuators” like electric motors, stepper motors, and electric muscular stimulators. As a result, self-driving automobiles or planes are robots, and only a small percentage of robots are humanoids.
Will machines generate more employment than the amount they eliminate? People have different opinions related to this topic and the reality is likely to fall somewhere in the middle. Most experts believe that automation will result in a tremendous increase in job opportunities. According to the World Economic Forum, automation will result in a net gain of 58 million jobs.
How has Robotics and AI changed the world?
Programmed Robots are transforming the world by assisting people in performing tasks more efficiently and in ways that were previously impossible. Robots help in manufacturing and production, disaster relief, augment physical abilities, serve in sectors where human interaction is required, and permit exploration in space.
Some Uses of Robots include Automated Transportation (Used in Self-driving cars like Tesla), Security, Defence, and Surveillance (Used in the military for arming and disarming bombs and are also used to monitor enemy’s activity) and Medicine and conducting surgeries (Micro and nanorobots which are capable of performing tasks that need precision and accuracy, something humans are incapable of).
Artificial intelligence and Robotics will cause a great impact on the future. The AI-based technology breakthroughs will undoubtedly occur in the coming decade. AI is all about data, and when applied effectively, it will use that data to our advantage, automating most tasks and making our lives easier.
