Mr. Mahamunkar views both art and education, with great dedication and involvement. He
was drawn into teaching under the influence of another teacher who saw in him a natural
leadership trait and this has since become a common trend in his teaching. He always
fosters a creative atmosphere where he encourages his students to be themselves and find
their individuality within their art, while sometimes showing them how to hone
themselves. Mr. Mahamunkar appreciates and respects the fact that students undergo
different stages of learning, enjoys assisting students to learn from their errors, and
maintains that happiness is vital in effective learning. His concerns don’t only end at
mastering technique, they also include nurturing the love for art and learning, where both
he and his students can grow.
1. What inspired you to pursue teaching ?
One of my professors in college. I was initially aiming to be a fine artist but he
pushed me to go in a teaching direction and insisted that it was perfect for me and
that I had the attitude for it, so here I am, as a professor.
2. Who is your favorite teacher or mentor and how did they influence you?
Mr. Prabhakar Gupta, he was a math teacher basically. I played cricket and he
encouraged me to stay in the team and was very supportive which made him stand
out as a different person to me. After 11th, I continued in the science field and then I
went back to him again and told him that I’m not that good at science or
particularly passionate about it, so he connected me with a guidance counselor and
that’s when I chose to pursue art. So Mr. Prabhakar Gupta, he gave me a lot of
guidance in my life.
3. What is your favorite aspect about teaching?
When students spoil their art work, I like to improve the work while teaching them
new techniques and methods and I like helping them improve their art work by
adding small details which can transform the art piece. In this process not only do
they gain knowledge but I also learn something new each time which is why I enjoy
it the most.
4. What is one thing you wish all students would take away from your class
Joy, just joy nothing else. Because if you enjoy, you will learn something.
