At the gates of Bombay Scottish, bathed in the sunset’s glow, nostalgia washes over us. The
laughter in the corridors, hurried footsteps, and whispered secrets are now treasured memories. The playground, which once seemed vast, now feels smaller, yet the echoes of our childhood persist. The feelings of heartbreak associated with leaving these hallowed halls where we received our life's education are now something we must make peace with. Although we longed for adulthood, on the brink of tomorrow, we wish for more time; more time to cherish each emotion and daily task, each lab session and field time. The bell will now ring for the last time marking the end of an era. With misty eyes, we hold onto every farewell, knowing Bombay Scottish will always be where it all began.
After years of growing up with each other, it is time for us to bid our final goodbyes and spend our final moments together in our uniforms. The sudden onset of emotions experienced is bittersweet to say the least, with the spectrum ranging from hugs to tears. We etch the precious moments we shared together into enduring memories by words. We pass around markers like a currency, pressing permanence into cotton as if it would keep time from slipping away. Our once clean uniforms come back home as a canvas for inside jokes, half formed doodles and rushed goodbyes. Gripping our shirts as if they are relics, acting as if holding on to the fabric will somehow keep us from losing one another, we step outside into a world that suddenly feels too big and too uncertain - laughing to suppress the truth we don't want to accept.
However, this isn't a final goodbye. Rather, it is a temporary farewell, filled with hope, nostalgia and the reassurance that we will all meet again at the opportune moment. The atmosphere is scintillating and exuberant, the memories everlasting. As we signed our uniforms with phrases of friendship and remembrance, the impending thought of having to leave dawned upon us. But, the closing of an old chapter brings the promise of a new one. In a way, our life has only just begun. The past is nostalgic, the present is confusing and ,well, the future is up to us.
