A Trailblazer in Technology: Aryaman Purav

The alumni network of Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, is filled with inspiring individuals, and one such shining star is Aryaman Purav, a 2019 ICSE graduate. Currently in his final year of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (EXTC) at the prestigious Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai, Aryaman has carved a niche for himself in the field of cybersecurity.

Aryaman recently added a significant feather to his cap by leading his team to victory in the Smart India Hackathon 2024, held at IIT Jammu, under the software category. The hackathon challenged participants to devise innovative solutions for real-world problems, and Aryaman’s team rose to the occasion, showcasing their expertise in blockchain and cybersecurity. Their problem statement, provided by the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Center (NCIIPC), focused on enhancing the security of open-source software using fuzzing techniques.

A Closer Look at the Winning Solution

The project involved improving the security of the Sumatra PDF Reader by utilizing advanced fuzzing techniques. The team developed a fuzzing harness and employed tools like DynamoRio, IDA, WinDBG, and WinAFL for code coverage, reverse engineering, and fuzzing. They also implemented corpus minimization, ensuring optimal efficiency and path coverage. Despite the complexity of the task, typically suited for seasoned professionals; the team’s dedication and hard work allowed them to deliver an impactful solution, earning them recognition at the national level.

Aryaman reflects on this transformative journey:“Winning the Smart India Hackathon 2024 in the software category was a life-changing experience for me and my team. It wasn’t just about technical expertise but also about resilience, teamwork, and addressing societal challenges through innovation. This victory strengthens my resolve to leverage technology for the betterment of society.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Aryaman’s achievements don’t end there. His exceptional performance in the hackathon has earned him a coveted internship with the NCIIPC under the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi. This opportunity highlights his potential to contribute significantly to India’s vision of a secure and digitally advanced future. As Bombay Scottish School continues to produce leaders across various fields, he stands as a role model for aspiring innovators, proving that with determination and the right guidance, no goal is too ambitious.
